Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how MiCite handles user text, files, citation lookups, and ordinary web request metadata. For ownership, license, warranty, no-legal-advice, and no-endorsement terms, please see the Terms of Use.
MiCite does not require user accounts, logins, passwords, billing information, or personally identifying information.
MiCite does not use cookies, advertising pixels, behavioral trackers, third-party analytics scripts, or cross-site tracking technologies. MiCite does not harvest, retain, sell, rent, or share document contents, citation reports, corrected text, formatted output, or user-supplied legal materials.
MiCite does not send uploaded TXT/MD files, full document text, citation reports, corrected text, formatted output, legal argument, notes, or surrounding citation context to an LLM provider, remote database, or remote formatting server. The deployed formatting engine performs citation-formatting review in the browser.
MiCite's current citation-formatting engine does not use generative AI. Future optional features may use AI, but MiCite will not transmit user text, uploaded files, citation reports, corrected output, formatted output, or other user data to generative AI without user notification and opt-in.
Everything is processed locally except optional CourtListener parallel-citation lookup. If the user enables “Format with parallel citations,” the browser sends MiCite's same-origin lookup endpoint only extracted citation identifiers: id, volume, reporter, and page. The endpoint rejects free-form text, case names, document fields, and unsupported reporter values, then sends CourtListener only volume, reporter, and page. MiCite does not send case names or document context for that lookup. Enabling this optional feature allows MiCite to report whether a reporter citation was found and compare a case name kept in the browser against public metadata returned by CourtListener. Users should independently verify all returned citations before filing.
Vercel or other hosting infrastructure may process ordinary web request metadata needed to serve static files, protect the service, diagnose errors, and understand aggregate usage, such as IP address, user-agent, timestamp, requested URL, and response status. MiCite is designed so document text and surrounding legal context are not included in those requests, and Cognisint does not sell or rent that request metadata.

MiCite is designed around deterministic, no-retention citation-formatting review.
In the default checking workflow, document text is processed in your browser. MiCite has no account system, no database for user documents, no third-party scripts, and no remote AI model call.
Everything is processed locally except optional CourtListener parallel-citation lookup. If the user enables “Format with parallel citations,” the browser first extracts citation identifiers and verifies that each lookup item contains only id, volume, reporter, and page. The same-origin lookup endpoint repeats that validation and sends CourtListener only volume, reporter, and page. MiCite does not send the full document, case name, argument, factual discussion, party discussion, notes, citation tables, corrected output, or surrounding context for that lookup.
Default checking flow
- Static MiCite files load from Vercel into the user's browser.
- The browser-local deterministic formatting engine checks text in memory inside the page.
- Reports, corrected text, and formatted HTML remain in the browser unless the user copies or downloads them.
Optional parallel-citation lookup flow
- The user opts into CourtListener lookup by enabling parallel citation formatting.
- The browser-local extractor and validator send MiCite's same-origin endpoint only extracted citation fields: id, volume, reporter, and page.
- The same-origin endpoint validates the citation-only request and sends CourtListener only volume, reporter, and page.
- CourtListener may return matching public reporter citations and public metadata.
- MiCite displays returned citation suggestions and lookup notes in the browser output.
